The StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) returns this weekend with a number of matches to officially kick start the 2021/22 season and among these is Onduparaka FC who will host UDPF FC at the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium in Arua.
The game will also double as Muhammad Shaban’s first official game for the club after four years away, he will be on skipper duties as the club aims to make amends for their poor 12th position last season.
When the two sides last met in the league last season, however, Living Kabon managed to score late in the match to sink UPDF in their own backyard at Bombo Military Barracks Playground.
So much has changed since then including the departure of Kabon who joined last season’s runners up URA FC while players like Augustine Akoch and Muhamad Kyeyune return to Arua for this particular tie as opponents.
The fact that both sides have had various changes in their technical set up that have seen Brian Ssenyondo take over managerial duties at UPDF following Kefa Kisala’s departure.
Onduparaka on the other hand hired the current Crested Cranes head coach and former URA FC assistant coach George William Lutalo to replace Vialli Bainomugisha who left the club last season.
Ssenyondo will aim to start with a win against the Caterpillars in order to consolidate his position at the army side as he faces a tough challenge of hitting the same heights as did by his predecessor the previous season.
For Lutalo’s case though, he will face a race against time in order to prepare his team for yet another challenging season given the plethora of problems they have had to navigate since the 2018 season.
As Arua plans to host to what is expected to be a bloody contest Deogragious Opio will be in charge of the game and will be assisted by Tonny Agil and Mario Okwang on either flanks.
Paul Omara will be the fourth official while Mike Letti has been named the referee assessor. The game will be played this Friday, October 15 at 3:00 pm EAT.
