The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Tuesday, October 19 made an announcement that the official launch of the 2021 Airtel FUFA Awards will happen this Thursday, October 21.

This confirmation was made through the official FUFA website along with their various social media platforms where they further highlighted that this year’s theme will be, ‘Celebrating Uganda’s Finest Football Personalities.’

“We are delighted that this year’s edition of the Airtel FUFA Awards will be staged and the launch event will be this Thursday, October 21 at Stonehaven Malcolm X hotel, Kololo,” revealed FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein.

“It was unfortunate that we did not have the Awards last year due to COVID-19 but following resumption of football competitions this year, the FUFA Executive Committee found it necessary to have the Awards back.”

The communication further confirms that the launch will unveil the nominees for both the Airtel FUFA Male and Female Player of the year categories but also new provisions added to make the event more fascinating.

“There are new categories that have been added to spice up the already existing ones over the years. All the other details will be known at the event,” concluded Hussein.

It is noteworthy that this particular edition will be the sixth time the event happens since Airtel came on board as sponsors but also the first time it will be held in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic since the 2020 edition never happened.

The last time the awards were held was in 2019 where the current Paradou AC player Allan Okello and Apollon WFC forward Juliet Nalukenge scooped the accolades for best male and female player respectively.

It has been customary for Airtel as sponsors to award the victory with a car along with a cash grant of UGX1 million. Keeping all the other factors constant, the expectations will be a maintenance of the modus operandi.
