Following a forced endurance of a poor run of results early this year, the Uganda Cranes under the stewardship of Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic finally managed to conquer their plight and got back to winning ways, something that has paid dividends in the latest FIFA rankings.
This particular winning path in the month of October was seen in an East African derby of the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda who they dispatched with an identical 1-0 scoreline over both legs.
Ashdod FC forward Fahad Bayo scored in both games to help the Cranes earn the bragging rights in the region and it was this performance that has seen the CECAFA giants rise to 82nd position in the rankings as of Thursday, October 21.
This is clearly a four positions improvement from the recent rankings released last month, on September 16 where Team Uganda found themselves positioned 86th in the whole World.
None of the national teams in the CECAFA region is above Uganda who are also better off than some giant sides on the continent, especially from West Africa. These are; Zambia, Gabon and Benin.
In light of this, Micho and his team will be hoping to even better their current position in the World for next month’s rankings (November 2021) when they return to action in the same competition against Kenya and Mali.
The Cranes are second in Group E on eight points, two adrift of leaders Mali who are on ten and clearly know that they could be in the playoffs at the time of concluding the next two fixtures.
A win against Rwanda for the latter would mean that all required for them to be there will be a draw against Uganda. That is on condition that Uganda beat Kenya in their home fixture.
Senegal who are positioned 20th in the whole World continue as the best footballing nation on the African continent whereas Belgium also continues as World number one.
