Ahead of their second StarTimes Uganda Premier League game, the Soltilo Bright Stars head coach Baker Mbowa has asserted that his side will be ready to avenge their 2020/21 league season opening day 1-0 home loss to Onduparaka FC.

The Matugga side, who have been synonymous with slow starts to the season, at least in the last two years also lost 3-1 to Mbarara City FC at the Kakyeka Stadium at the start of this very season.

Mbowa is not oblivious to the kind of predicament his team finds themselves in and maintains that his boys are raring to fight for maximum points against the Caterpillars come Friday afternoon.

“We lost against tomorrow’s opponent here at Kavumba last season and we do not want a repeat of such,” Mbowa told the press after the last Thursday training session.

“We also lost the first game of the season against Mbarara City because of a few avoidable mistakes. However, we have corrected all these and the boys are ready to deliver.”

Mbowa was however wary of the threat the visitors will most likely pose and responded with sheer honesty

“Of course they are a hard team to play against especially because you don’t know what to expect from them but we shall focus on our strengths on countering whatever they bring.”

“Like I have said, we have tried to iron out all the niggles that cost us the game against Mbarara City and I am positive that the boys will work with what we have given them.”

The gaffer also confirmed the fact that Warren Buule had returned to full fitness, had trained and was ready to feature should he be called upon.

“We still have three absentees but Warren Buule is back from the sidelines. He is ready and will most likely play tomorrow.”

In the same vein, defensive colossus Andrew Kyambadde also underlined the team’s readiness to grind out a positive result in their first home game.

“We conceded silly goals against Mbarara City but we managed to sit down, analyse and clean out all the unwanted defensive mistakes from our performance,” he stated.

“We have had a good week, trained really hard, the coaches and the players have really been at it. We are confident that we shall get all the points against Onduparaka,” he summed.

For the previous nine meetings between the sides, the home team have had a slight edge against their foes. Soltilo Bright Stars have been victorious on three occasions, drawn four times and lost twice dating back to 2016.

The Caterpillars, who managed a one-all draw against UPDF FC in their opener enter this particular fixture in seventh position with one point while their hosts still struggle in the 11th position without a single point.
