Onduparaka FC registered a narrow 1-0 win to edge Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreational Center on Friday Evening.

Ramathan Dudu’s header was the only difference between the two sides as Bright Stars suffered a second consecutive loss in as many games played in the 2021/22 campaign.

Onduparaka made three changes from the team that played UPDF in the league opener. Micheal Kagiri replaced Emmanuel Opolot in between the sticks while Dudu and Nathan Oloro started ahead of Allan Busobozi and Gabriel Matata.

The visitors started on the forefront, passing the ball with ease and precision as they sought an early breakthrough.

However, as the game wore on, Bright Stars made their presence heard too, asking Onduparaka’s defence s few questions.

In the 21st minute, Ivan Okello found Shaban Muhammad in Shaban Muhammed territory but Bright Stars custodian Simon Tamale rose to collect the effort.

At the half hour mark, defender Dudu raised high to head home a corner kick into give the Arua based a well-deserved lead.

On the return for the second stanza, Bright Stars showed quick interest in finding an equaliser with continuous attacks but Onduparaka stood to the challenge.

In the 56th minute, Onduparaka made a double substitution introducing Ivan Oloro and Gabriel Matata for Emmanuel Oketch and Jarieko James.

Right minutes to full time, Oketch dribbled through a forest of legs before he was fouled at the edge of the box to earn Onduparaka a freekick.

Oloro stepped up to take the freekick but his well-curled effort was parried away by Bright Star’s custodian for a goal kick.

Three minutes later, Shaban failed to extend the visitor’s lead with only the keeper to beat as his effort went off target.

It’s Onduparaka’s first win of the season after their one all draw with UPDF at home, Bright Stars have lost their second following the 3-1 loss to Mbarara City at Kakyeka.

In the next fixture, Onduparaka will make a short trip to face Arua Hill SC at Barifa Stadium, Arua on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
