FUFA Big League (FBL) side Kitara FC have reappointed the now former Nyamityobora FC coach Richard Makumbi to the head coach role for the forthcoming 2021/22 season-that is slated for on November 2021.

To confirm his return for a second stint with the Pride of Bunyoro, Makumbi was on Saturday, October 23 unveiled by the club’s Vice President in Charge of Technical matters, Bernard Tugume Isoke at their residency in Hoima city.

With excitement brimming his face, Tugume, who chaired the Technical Committee that led the recruitment process affirmed that Makumbi was just the right choice for the club given his experience.

“After careful planning, hardwork and ingenuity of talented managers, we have decided to settle with Makumbi because he fits our club aspirations,” he stated after the coach’s unveiling.

It is imperative to recall that Makumbi had first joined Kitara FC on January 21, 2019 where he put together a close to perfect second half of the season run of results, losing only a single game to Kansai Plascon.

He returns to Kitara FC with the ‘Promotional Specialist’ status hanging around his neck, amassed from a 29 year coaching experience in which he has managed to guide upto 14 teams to the Uganda Premier League. The expectations will rightfully be high.

As clearly spelt out in their five year development plan, Makumbi has been tasked to promote the team to greater heights by strengthening the youth structure and developing a competitive and beautiful football philosophy.

The coach will of course also be expected to steer the club back to topflight football following their forgettably short-lived debut season, where they managed to collect only 13 points from 27 games to finish bottom of a 16 team table.

It was indeed a season to forget for the Hoima side who registered just three wins the entire season, drew four and lost 20 games. Scoring only 35 goals and conceding a whooping 80.

His return to the club also marks an end to Tony Sekito’s era at the club who understandably parted ways with him courtesy of his failure to shrug off relegation advances along with his consistent poor results.

Just last season, Makumbi guided Nyamityobora to the promotional playoffs after which he left the club following the team’s humiliating 4-0 loss to Gadaffi FC in the semifinals that he blamed on some ‘big officials’ at the club.

In the season before, Makumbi had also led Kiboga Young to the promotional playoffs final, a final in which he only unluckily lost 1-0 to his new employers who then earned promotion to the UPL. This was during the 2019/20 season.
