AWCON: Lutalo confirms 20 woman squad to face Ethiopia

The Uganda Women Senior National Team (Crested Cranes) head coach George William Lutalo has confirmed a squad of 20 ladies that will be travelling to Ethiopia to face off against the inhabitants.

The two sides lockhorns this Tuesday, October 26 in what will be the return leg of this second round 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers. The Cranes approach the game with an advantage.

That is so because they won the first leg played on Wednesday October 20, 2021 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende with an emphatic 2-0 scoreline.

As expected, Ruth Aturo retains her position in the team as first choice goalkeeper and team captain and joining her will be the Lady Doves skipper Daisy Nakaziro and Daphine Nyayenga.

Sumaya Komuntale, Asia Nakibuuka, Shadia Nankya, Viola Namuddu and Phoebe Banura have been charged with defensive and shielding responsibilities.

Riticia Nabossa, who scored the opener at Kitende will be in charge of the midfield together with Sheebah Zalwango, Shamirah Nalugya, Joan Nabirye and Rhoda Nanziri.

The goal getters will be Juliet Nalukenge, Margret Kunihira, Hasifah Nassuna, Sandra Nabweteme, Fauzia Najjemba, Sharon Naddunga and Laki Otandeka Kanyesigye.

The Crested Cranes travel to Ethiopia in high spirits hoping to conclude and seal off the task. They will be expected to jet out of the country at 3:30 pm this Sunday October 23, 2021.
