Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers fixtures against Kenya and Mali, Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has named a 28-man provisional squad.

Locally based players have occupied 18 slots, whereas the other eight have been filled up by foreign based players. And it is Vipers SC with the largest number of representatives.

The Uganda Premier League side has been represented by seven players and these are; defenders in Aziz Kayondo, Livingstone Mulundo and captain Halid Lwaliwa.

Midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga and forwards in Yunus Sentamu, Ibrahim Orit and Milton Karisa have all been named in Micho’s squad.

Their rivals KCCA have four players on the Serbian’s list; defenders Denis Iguma, Geoffrey Wasswa, John Revita and midfielder Julius Poloto.

SUPL defending champions’ captain Enock Walusimbi misses out due to injury and it is goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, midfielder Mahad Yaya Kakooza and forward Martin Kizza who will show up for Express on the national team.

Midfielder Shafik Kagimu and striker Steven Mukwala are also in for URA FC whilst young defenders in Gavin Kizito Mugweri and Kenneth Ssemakula will represent SC Villa.

Amongst the foreign based players, Allan Okello and Bevis Mugabi have returned to the national team after missing out for a while.

Paradou AC midfielder Okello was not invited for the doubleheader against Rwanda since he was struggling for playing time with his Algerian outfit but he has of late been a regular prompting Micho to call him up.

On the other hand, Motherwell defender Mugabi has not featured in any of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers despite his impressive displays at the Scottish side.

It was reported that the Scotland Covid-19 conditions and set guidelines had barred him from jetting to Uganda but all that is now sorted.

The Cranes will host Kenya on November 11 before an away tie against Mali in Guinea on November 14.

Micho’s side are second in Group E on eight points, two behind group leaders Mali who visit Rwanda on matchday five of the qualifiers.
