Following a series of abysmal results, Soltilo Bright Stars have terminated head coach Baker Mbowa’s contract with over a year left.
Through a press release the communication on Wednesday evening confirmed that the two had reached a mutual understanding to end their ties.
“Soltilo Bright Stars football club and Mr.Abubaker Mbowa have on the 10th day of November, 2021 mutually agreed to part ways,” partly read the letter.
“The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required,” the letter further confirmed.
This comes after an extremely slow start to the 2021/22 season which has seen the club lose three of the opening four games. The last one, against KCCA FC, ended in a one all draw.
Following the decision, the club has appointed Simon Peter Mugerwa who has been Mbowa’s deputy, the new head coach on interim basis.
“We have asked Assistant Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Simon to take us forward.”
Mbowa had signed a three year contract in 2020 but that has now been cut short despite a brilliant 2020/21 campaign.
He led them to their best ever top-flight finish last season, fifth behind KCCA, Vipers SC, URA FC and champions Express FC.
Mbowa becomes the third coach to leave his role after Wakiso Giants’ Douglas Bamweyana, and Gadaffi’s Mubarak Wamboya.
