After winning his first game as the new head coach of Gaddafi FC when they edged Arua Hill SC 1-0 a week ago, Peter Onen’s second game in charge of the Soldier Boys is against his former employers BUL FC.
The two Jinja-based sides will lockhorns in a Sunday afternoon Startimes Uganda Premier League encounter at the Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe.
Onen was sacked by the Oil Manufactures in January 2020 following a poor run of results and for the very first time, he will be making his return to his former home but this time, he will sit in the visiting team’s dugout.
After he registered his first win in charge of Gaddafi against Arua Hill, Onen noted how important the victory was as he looks forward to staging a more enterprising team.
“A lot is going to change as we look forward to forming a stronger team and it is nice that we have started with a win,” Onen said after the game before adding.
“We are looking forward to the next game against BUL and hopefully, we can start showcasing the new style of play (indirect style of play) that we intended to use throughout my time here,” he added.
The newly promoted SUPL outfit comes into Sunday’s game placed eighth on the 16 team log with eight points after having a mixture of results in their opening six games, two wins, two draws and double loses.
On the other hand, the hosts find themselves in a better position, third on 13 points and level with second-placed Vipers SC who have a better goal difference and a game in hand.
They defeated SC Villa 2-1 in their last game and it is upon that victory that head coach Alex Isabirye noted how huge their next fixture is.
“Winning against such an opponent gives us extra motivation ahead of our next game against Gaddafi,” Isabirye said before adding.
“I am sure that it is not going to be an easy game but we shall build on the Villa victory to see that we register three more points,” he added.
Isabirye will rely on Musa Esenu who scored a brace against Villa, Joseph Ssemujju, Ibrahim Nsimbe and Martin Aprem.
Meanwhile, Onen will be hopeful that Brian Kalumba and Joel Madondo carry their scoring boots as he also looks forward to the experience of former KCCA FC defender Hassan Musana.
