SUPL: ‘Mbarara draw is a point gained, not two dropped’ – Police’s Ikara

By Brian Aheebwa

Following Police FC’s goalless draw against Mbarara City FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday, the former’s goalkeeper Tom Ikra was named man of the match.

The above shows how important a player he was as his side gained their first point of the season having lost all their opening six games and he considers the draw a point gained rather than two dropped.

“Having lost our previous six games, a point against Mbarara is a good start for us as we try to find a footing into the right direction,” Ikara told the media after the game.

“We believe that this point will help us have a good performance in our next game as we search with our first victory because we are all together in this cause,” he added.

It was relief for head coach Abdallah Mubiru and the entire team as they earned a ‘priceless’ first point but they will need to improve in nearly every department in order to end their winless streak.

As Ikara pulled off quite a number of saves to deny the visitors on several ocassions, strikers Brian Mayanja Muluuli and Juma Balinya were not sharp enough in front of the opponents goal despite Police creating chances that should have at least produced a goal or two.

A point could not help the hosts much in as far as the table standings are concerned, they remained bottom of the 16 team SUPL log on a single point.

Their next league fixture is an away game at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje against URA FC on Tuesday, November 30.
