It was an evening filled with mixed emotions as Mamelodi Sundowns captain Dennis Onyango received a red card but surpassed goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs 119 clean sheets tally in the Premier Soccer League.

The former Uganda Cranes skipper managed the amazing feat in his side’s 2-0 win over Sekhukhune on Saturday, taking his PSL tally to 120 clean sheets, in second.

On 120 clean sheets, Onyango is only five behind Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs who is leading the way with 125.

Onyango has achieved the milestone in 240 appearances, since making his debut in 2016. Josephs played 260 before he retired whereas Khune is on 270 games.

Among the three, the ‘Brazilian’ shirt 14 has conceded the fewest goals, letting in 170 as compared to Josephs’ 266 and Khune’s 207.

During the same game, the Masandawa custodian was sent off after he denied Tshidiso Patjie a clear goal scoring opportunity in the 86th minute.

After playing in nine games this season, Onyango has so far made eight clean sheets, only three short of his last season’s tally of 11 clean sheets made in 25 games.

His highest clean sheets tally ever since joining the PSL in 2006 stands at 13 clean sheets, a feat he achieved in his first season while at SuperSport United.

The former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper is also still chasing Josephs’ record of keeping the most clean sheets in a single season.

Josephs made 17 clean sheets in the 2009/10 season in 28 appearances, a record that still stands 11 years later.
