Real Star Awards: U20 captain emerges November’s finest

Uganda Women U20 national team captain Fauzia Najjemba has been named the player of the month for November at the Fortbet Real Star Awards ceremony held at the Route256 Restaurant on Wednesday morning.

Najjemba wins the monthly award after scoring eight goals in November at the inaugural Women U20 CECAFA Championship, a tournament where she also finished as top scorer with 11 goals.

The Kampala Queens WFC skipper scored in all the six games but most notably, netted six goals as Uganda demolished Djibouti 13-0 at the start of November.

Prior, she had bagged a brace as Uganda thrashed Burundi 5-1 as October climaxed.

The youngster went ahead and scored once in Uganda’s 2-0 win over Eritrea, netted the only goal of the game as the U20 side edged Tanzania 1-0 and she was on target once when Uganda threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 on the final day at Njeru.

She beat off competition from teammate in goalkeeper Dhapine Nyayenga and Wakiso Giants FC’s Titus Ssematimba to win the accolade.

Najjemba takes over from Uganda Cranes striker Fahad Bayo who won the award in the previous month of October.

Besides football, the best performers in Athletics, Badminton, Woodball, Golf, Netball and Cricket during November, were also rewarded.

Woodball: Florence Mukayo

Cricket: Riazat Ali Shah

Golf: Irene Nakalembe
