Buddu Ssaza registered a 1-0 win against Butambala in the 2021 Buganda Masaza Cup at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, with Bruno Bunyanga scoring the only goal in the opening game of the Muganzirwaza group.
In the 33rd minute, midfielder Edward Owachgiu wriggled through a forest of legs towards Buddu’s goal but his powerful shot from the left missed the target by inches to deny the deadlock.
In the added minutes of the first stanza, Marvin Kavuma nearly gave Buddu the lead but Butambala’s Joseph Ogwang made a timely block for a corner kick.
On the return of the second half, Buddu came back re-energised and it was only a matter of time before they found the all-important goal.
In the 70th minute, Bruno Bunyanga roofed the ball past Butambala’s custodian Henry Mbaabali to place Buddu in the driving seat.
Ten minutes to end of the second period, Jaffer Kaziro came on for Twaha Ayman Toure for Buddu’s second change.
Butambala could not make amends and despite late threats, they failed to manage an equalizer, implying a first loss in the 2021 edition for them.
The result takes Buddu to the helm of Muganzirwa group while Butambala stay bottom. Buddu returns to action on Saturday December 4 against Busujju while Butambala will play Buwekula on Monday December 6.
