Buddu Ssaza registered a mesmerising 6-1 win over Mawogola in their second last game of Muganzirwaza group in the 2021 Masaza Cup at FUFA Technical Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

Steven Bogere’s charges came in the game level on seven points with Buwekula but the emphatic win takes them to ten and are set to play against Ssingo in the quarterfinals.

In the 18th minute, Isma Lamitala nutmegged his marker before he turned superbly to send a powerful shot on goal but Mawogola goalkeeper’s Robert Bbaale punched it out for a corner kick.

A few moments later, Bruno Bunyaga shot on goal from outside the box and Bbaale fumbled with the ball before defender Daniel Bakaki cleared it away.

In the 32nd minute, Sharifu Sengendo nodded home skipper Marvin Kavuma’s corner kick past goalkeeper Bbaale to place Buddu in the driving seat.

Six minutes later, Abdul Kalanzi released Richard Mugisha whose effort bounced off the post and former tapped home the rebound from close range, restoring parity for Mawogola.

Just after scoring, Kalanzi was pulled off the field of play injured and was replaced by fellow forward Alex Mutebi.

On the other side, Buddu’s Brian Omirambe came on the pitch to replace Geoffrey Gaggange whose workrate in the tight game looked dim.

Two minutes into the second half, Kavuma restored Buddu’s lead through a beautiful finish that left Mawogola’s custodian Bbaale stranded on the floor.

In the 52nd minute, Alex Mutebi was called off the field of play with an injury despite coming on as a substitute and was replaced by Umar Luswabi in Mawogola’s forced change.

In the 66th minute, Vianney Bukenya extended Buddu’s lead through a tap in thanks to Farouk Sekayi’s well laid cross from the left wing.

With 20 minutes to play, Buddu introduced custodian Nasif Kabuye for Michael Lutaaya while Mawogola brought on Vicent Barungi for Patrick Ouke.

Moments later, Sengendo stole possession from the right wing and placed a through pass to find Bukenya whose low shot found the back of the net for 4-1.

In the 85th minute, Bunyaga converted from the spot kick to make it 5-1 for Buddu. With a minute to end the game, second half substitute Omirambe slotted the ball home to put the icing on the cake for Buddu’s sixth goal.
