Following the temporal cancellation of flights from Uganda to Dubai by United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities on Tuesday, Uganda Cranes’ trip to the latter has been called off.
The Cranes were due to fly out on Wednesday, December 29 for two international friendly matches against AFCON-bound sides Gabon and Mauritania on December 30 and January 2 respectively.
However, a FUFA communique of Tuesday afternoon has confirmed that the team will not fly out.
“FUFA has called off the Uganda Cranes trip to the United Arab Emirates due to challenges with flight travel,” partly reads the statement on the FUFA website.
“Logistically, the time available for the arrangement of an alternative flight is not enough for the contingent to fly into UAE.”
UAE has in recent weeks banned flights from the likes of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda among others due to a surge in the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus.
However, flights to Uganda from the UAE are still on, and, it awaits to be seen whether either Gabon or Mauritania in conjunction with FUFA will reschedule the games in another country.
