Algeria will inevitably be awaited especially because they are the defending champions. The Dessert Warriors will also want to confirm their continental supremacy to keep their crown.

The two-time African champions will have to face tough opposition in the form of Côte d’Ivoire and that’s without counting out Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone, always complicated to face.

Algeria remain on an impressive run of 33 games without defeat in all competitions.

The 29th ranked side is bound to make an impression and push the team to surpass itself to push back this record game after game.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast will want to make amends for the failed 2022 World Cup qualification campaign. They will want to prove that the failure is well behind them. What better way than to win the trophy?

With Algeria in Group E, the Ivorians will also want to take revenge for the 2019 edition. They were eliminated in the quarter-finals in the shootouts by the former.

The 56th ranked side have won the Cup twice in history (1992 and 2015) and will fancy a third. With stars like Wilfred Zaha, Sabastian Haller, Nicholas Pepe and others, they stand a chance.

Equatorial Guinea will be taking part in their third African Cup of Nations finals in 2021.

However, this will be the first time that Nzalang Nacional have qualified through action.

In 2012, they co-hosted with Gabon, and again in 2015, they stole the show after Morocco withdrew, the team benefited from its host country status to avoid the qualifiers.

It has been a long wait for Sierra Leone. After they participate in 1994 and 1996, the Leone Stars will play their third Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Participation was acquired not without difficulty after a match against Benin. It took a penalty from star striker Kei Kamara to send the team to Cameroon.

Save for one, matches in this group will be played at the Japoma Stadium in Douala. However, Equatorial Guinea’s match with Sierra Leone will take centre stage at Limbe Stadium.
