Four time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC will have to pick maximum points against Arua Hill SC on Tuesday if they are to maintain hold of their log leadership.

The Venoms ascended to the top after trumping UPDF FC 7-2 in their last match of 2021, on December 27 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

It was also after then-leaders, KCCA FC had had their match with Onduparaka abandoned following the latter fans’ pitch invasion with the game tied at 2-2.

The Barifa Stadium encounter will however be far from a walkover as the hosts have proven a difficult match for the big sides this season.

The ‘Leopards’ have this season beaten Express 2-0, Wakiso Giants 2-1 and URA 3-2, they have also drawn 2-2 with record champions SC Villa.

Arua Hill who occupy fifth on the table with 21 points have managed six victories overall, drawn thrice and lost on four occasions.

Meanwhile, the Kitende side, who will be the guests tomorrow, have only lost once this season (2-0 against URA).

They have emerged triumphant nine times and drawn just twice, placing them at the apex with 29 points. It is also worth noting it is the highest scoring side with 30 goals.

Despite having quality in depth, Vipers were short in numbers against UPDF, having to endure with just five substitutions on their bench, albeit, without a single defender.

Colossus midfielder Siraje Ssentamu limped off at Kitende and it is not sure if he will be available for the Barifa duel.

Head coach Roberto Oliveira has had Paul Willa back in training and he should be back to take his place despite youngster Emmanuel Munoobi diligently deputizing him at right back.

Vipers and Arua Hill have never met in their competitive history and the winner of the evening will have written their name in the history books.
