There’s no smoke without fire they say, and that saying carries directly into football coach Mike Hillary Mutebi’s previous and current situation.
When Mutebi was sacked by KCCA FC in March 2021, he decided to take a sabbatical leave although there were quite a number of teams interested in his services.
Uganda Premier League giants Vipers SC and Rwandan side Kiyovu SC were occasionally in talks with his representatives but at the end of the day, an agreement couldn’t be reached.
In May 2021, this website reported that Kiyovu were willing to offer the former Uganda Cranes tactician a salary in a region of US$5,000 and US$10,000 and would pay him six months in advance.
However, this same online portal would later confirm that the two parties failed to agree on financial terms with the former KCCA coach asking for more than what Kiyovu was willing to offer.
But truth be told Mutebi was the front runner for the Kiyovu job back then before it was given to former Tanzania coach Etienne Ndayiragije.
Eight months later, the former SC Villa coach has finally earned himself a job in Rwanda with AS Kigali where he will work with Jackson Mayanja as his assistant.
Well, it may not be Kiyovu, but it’s a clear indication that Mutebi was always destined to one day manage football in Rwanda given that he had suitors all over the region but at the end of it all he has chosen to go to Kigali.
Mutebi who’s already in Rwanda will soon be unveiled and will take over from Jimmy Mukisa, the latter replaced Eric Nshimiyimana who was sacked in December 2021.
AS Kigali is currently positioned 4th on the 16 teams Rwanda National Football League log with 20 points, five adrift of Mutebi’s would be bosses Kiyovu who lead the standings on 25 points after 12 games.
