Pierre Emerick Aubemayang saw an early return to London from the Cameroon Africa Cup of Nations amidst heart lesions after Covid-19 diagnosis alongside teammate Mario Lemina.

However, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta appears not to be duly informed by the Gabonese football federation about the whole circumstance.

Speaking ahead of the EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool, Arteta said: “He is in London. Now he’s going through some examinations because we haven’t had any clarity from the Gabon National Team about the reasons why he came back.”

“Obviously it’s our obligation to make sure medically the player is safe,” Arteta added before concluding.

“So far, historically with everything we’ve done with the player, he’s never had that issue. Let’s go step by step and make sure the player is in the best possible condition, then let’s see what happens.”

However, reports in Gabon linked Aubemayang’s return to England along with Lemina to improper behaviour which took place at the team hotel allegedly.

In response, Aubameyang and Lemina immediately denied the allegations on social media.

However, the Gabonese Federation stood firm that it had decided to put Aubameyang and Lemina at the disposition of their clubs to complete further medical examinations.

The former Arsenal captain did not feature at all for the Panthers at this Africa Cup of Nations edition in Cameroon.
