Ahead of their Africa Cup of Nation Round of 16 encounter with hosts Cameroon on Monday, there happens to be a bit of relief in the Comoros camp after goalkeeper Ali Ahamada returned negative Covid-19 results from the tests done on Monday.
For starters, Ahamada and his colleague Moyadh Ousseini tested positive on Friday with 10 other players together with their head coach Amir Abdou. First choice goalkeeper Ben Boina has already been ruled out with injury.
If Ahamada has not tested negative the Les Coelacantes were to approach the game against Cameroon with an outfield player in goal, at least according to CAF rules.
However, it’s a win for the Comorians after their call of having the tests redone before the game goes ahead was heard by the football governing body.
Ahamada who came on as a first half substitute for Boina against Ghana, a game they shockingly won 3-2, will continue in goal as they hope to pull off yet another shocker against hosts Cameroon.
Comoros, who are playing at their maiden AFCON tournament, earned a place in the last 16 as one of the best four third placed teams.
