Gambia coach Tom Saintfiet is proud of the Scorpions’ performances at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Saintfiet who leads Gambia for their first participation in the AFCON finals expressed the ambitions of the tournament debutants.
“It is fantastic what is happening to us. Here, we beat Mauritania and Tunisia and drew against Mali. It’s exceptional. Currently, we are in the quarterfinals after eliminating Guinea (1-0). It is simply a dream,” he told CAFOnline.com.
“In truth, it is a process that started several years ago. We worked well for three and a half years. Everyone understands our way of working. I’m really very proud.”
“It’s already fantastic to be in African top eight. But when you’re there, it’s because you deserve it. We do not want our dream to end even if it is Cameroon, a great team and in addition, it is the host country.”
” We want to win this quarterfinal. We know it won’t be easy. Against Cameroon, all the players are available. It can help to get a good result. Cameroon are big favourites. We have to relax and play our football,” added Saintfied.
The Scorpions coach intends to pursue the dream of lifting the trophy urging his players to fully take their chances in the quarterfinal against the Indomitable Lions.
The Scorpions will be tussling it with the hosts at the Japoma Stadium, Douala this Saturday in the hope to build onto the exquisite maiden tournament so far.
"Today, you will show the WHOLE WORLD, not only Gambia, that you are all heroes." ?♂️
