Despite both Cameroon and Burkina Faso failing to hit the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final, it is not all lost as they have a bronze to play for.

Cameroon, who are the hosts, got dumped out of the competition 3-1 via a penalty shootout by Egypt on Thursday.

But will hope to give their fans something to cheer about if they can beat the Burkinabe on Saturday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in the third-place playoff.

The Stallions were beaten 3-1 by Senegal in the first semifinal on Wednesday to miss out on the repeat of their 2013 feat when they made the final, only to lose 1-0 to Nigeria.

Saturday’s bout is a repeat of this edition’s opening fixture where the Indomitable Lions needed to come from a goal down to win 2-1 at the Olembe Stadium in Group A.

On that occasion, a first half Vincent Aboubakar penalty brace cancelled Gustavo Sangare’s strike to set the hosts to a flying start to the tournament.

They went on to beat Ethiopia 4-1, drew 1-1 with Cape Verde to top Group A, the Indomitable Lions then won 2-1 and 2-0 against Comoros and Gambia in the round of 16 and quarterfinals respectively, before falling to Egypt in the semis.

Burkina Faso beat Cape Verde 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Ethiopia. For the last 16 and quarterfinals, they eliminated Gabon and Tunisia respectively before falling to Senegal.

Both sides are expected to rest their first team players, with chance given to the other squad members.
