Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) head coach Haruna Kebba insists his side still has a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the 2022 PEPSI University Football League despite losing the first match to Bugema University 2-0.
Kebba made the remarks ahead of his outfit’s bout against Busitema University slated for Thursday at the IUIU grounds in Mbale.
“Ours is a very difficult group. Since we are only three teams in the group only one team is being considered unlike the groups where there are four teams, where the runners-up have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage,” Kebba spoke to the media.
“However, I know we have a chance even though we are in a group with strong teams. All we need to do is win all our remaining games and we shall make it,” he added.
Kebba noted that playing at home shall give them an added advantage which they hope to build on.
“It’s important that we win. We need all three points since we are at home as we know that winning away from home is not easy. We must make sure we win from home, sportingly,” he added.
However, Busitema’s head coach Ronald Lumala is also looking for all maximum in their first match in the 2022 edition.
“This season, things are very competitive so you cannot afford to relax. You need to win from the word go and we are going to Mbale to collect all three points. IUIU should be prepared for a tough game,” Lumala said.
The three-team Group F has Bugema at the top with three points, Busitema in second without a point, and IUIU occupying rock-bottom with a negative two-goal difference.
