Ugandan strikers Umaru Kasumba and George Abege were both on target as their sides Sofapaka and Kariobangi Sharks played to a one all draw in a Kenyan Premier League match played on Thursday at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Kasumba found the back of the net in the 30th minute, firing home from inside the penalty area after pouncing on a loose ball on the right side.
Sofapaka showed more improvement after the break raiding for an equalizer against a Sharks side that opted to sit back and absorb the pressure.
The equalizer finally came in the 89th minute when Kasumba rose high to head a Steven Waruru cross from the left flank. John Avire nearly won the game for Sofapaka in the 89th minute but his shot from a freekick was superbly saved by Sharks goalie, John Oyemba.
Kasumba takes his tally to 11 goals one behind joint leading scorers Allan Wanga and Enosh Ochieng, Abege is on two.
“It was a tough game. Sharks played well especially in the first half but we had to fight more in the second half. We showed massive improvement and had we taken all the chances we created, maybe we would have picked more than a point,” Sofapaka coach John Baraza said.
“Sofapaka is a good team and they showed that today. It’s painful to concede in the last minute of the game but we have to take that one point and focus on our next game,” Sharks coach William Muluya asserted.
Sofapaka lead the 18 team log with 45 points from 24 games, same number of points as Bandari who have a game in hand. Sharks are ninth on 37 points.
