Emmanuel Mike Aciga the captain of Buganda Regional League side Young Simba has rejoined Uganda Premier League side UPDF.
Aciga who featured for Simba (UPDF) between 2012 and 2015 was promoted from UPDF’s sister club Young Simba.
He was sidelined for a year with a broken leg in 2016 and returned in 2017 under The Saints’ franchise that was bought by Simba.
This was after the Bombo based side was relegated to the second division and later left in 2018 for official duty.
The Defender had an impressive first round with Young Simba helping them to a 4th place first round finish with 18 points in 11 matches.
Aciga missed the opening three Buganda Regional League matches due to injury but came back strong having conceded just one goal against Lugazi Municipal and kept seven cleansheets in eight appearances.
His form and experience prompted Brian Ssenyondo to promote him to the senior team.
Aciga becomes only the sixth player to be promoted from Young Simba to the senior team (UPDF) joining goalkeeper Akweny Paul.
Others are Bright Vuni who since joined Arua Hill, Dongo Mustafa, Abantu Herbert, Kisambira Julius and Goalkeeper Okidi Jimmy who returned to Young Simba.
UPDF’s backline was heavily exposed in the first round allowing 26 goals against them the highest in the league.
With Ibrahim Magandaazi and Kasozi Samson the only senior centre backs in the squad, Aciga will be a huge boost to the team.
Thirteenth on the log with 10 points, UPDF’s first game in the second round will be away to Express at Wankulukuku Stadium on 11th February.
