AFCON 2019: Blow for Kenya as defender is ruled out of Algeria showdown

By Football256 Team

Kenya defender Joash Onyango has  been ruled out of Sunday’s African Cup of Nations opener against Algeria after picking an ankle injury in training.

The Gor Mahia man was expected to start at the heart of coach Sebastien Migne’s defense but it now appears the Frenchman will have to look for another option after the no-nonsense defender was ruled out.

According to reports, Onyango picked up the injury on Saturday in training and Stars’ medical team has since ruled him out of the match against the North Africans.

The injury leaves coach Sebastien Migne with limited options at the back. Brian Mandela is already out of the tournament after undergoing surgery while Musa Mohamed is carrying a minor injury.

The only fully fit central defenders available are David Owino, Joseph Okumu and Bernard Ochieng.

Okumu and Ochieng are untested at the highest level and it may provide a big headache for Migne. Kenya vs Algeria game will kick off at 11pm.
