Harambee Stars’ defender Abud Omar believes the friendly match against DR Congo scheduled for Saturday 15th June in Madrid, Spain will be tough for both teams.
Kenya will face Florent Ibenge’s side in Madrid on Saturday in what will be their final warmup game ahead of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Kenya defeated Madagascar 1-0 last time out and on Saturday they will be out to get another win against DRC.
Kenya registered two wins in the last two encounters between the two teams probably the reason Abud thinks the warmup game will be tough.
“We beat them away (1-0 on October 4, 2016, in Kinshasa) and they didn’t believe it. They came at home and we beat them again. (2-1 on March 26, 2019, in Machakos),” Abud said before adding.
“I don’t think it was a fluke. Saturday’s match will be revenge. It won’t be easy for us, but it won’t also be easy for them.”
On the Nations Cup preparations, the former Tusker FC defender who currently plies his trade in Romania said the team is preparing well both physically and mentally.
“Training has been very rigorous. AFCON will not be easy and the coach is preparing us both physically and psychologically for the challenge.”
“We are putting in a lot and hopefully, we will get positive results,” he added.
Kenya are pooled on Group B alongside side Tanzania, Senegal and Algeria, they open up their campaign against the 1990 champions.
