AFCON 2019: Maaloul asks to be omitted from Tunisia’s final squad

Reports from the Tunisian camp indicate that left back Ali Maaloul requested to be release from the team’s camp ahead of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations because he wasn’t ready to sit on the bench.

The 29-year-old marauder was with the African giants at the 2017 edition in Gabon, he also represented his national team at last year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia where he made two appearances.

Meanwhile, star striker Youssef Msakni managed to make the cut into the 2019 AFCON squad, the 28-year-old striker wasn’t in the Carthage Eagles’ squad that represented the country at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Tunisia are looking forward at winning their second Africa Cup of Nations title in Egypt, their only AFCON title came in 2004 when they hosted the tournament. They have also been runners up twice in 1965 as hosts and 1996 held in South Africa.

The Alain Giresse coached side will be in Group E alongside Angola, Mauritania and Mali and will begin their quest for the second title against Angola on Monday, June 24th.
