Madagascar continued with their amazement performance at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations, they stunned DR Congo 4-2 on penalties following a two-all stalemate at Alexandria Stadium which ensured them a quarter-final spot.
The Debutants took a surprise lead through Ibrahim Amada’s superb 20-yard thunderbolt strike in the ninth minute before Cedric Bakambu brought matters to level terms with a header in the 21st minute of the game.
The Islanders then restored their lead through Faneva Andriatsima’s header in the 77th minute but it was cancelled out by Chancel Mbemba’s 90th-minute equalizer to force the game into extra-time.
However, before Mbemba’s strike, DR Congo were denied a penalty in divisive circumstances when Britt Assombalonga appeared to be fouled by Thomas Fontaine in the area.
Madagascar scored all their four penalties to continue with their magical run with yet another impressive performance.
DR Congo missed two penalties, with Marcel Tisserand Everton winger Yannick Bolasie’s attempts both going over the bar.
