Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne was elated with his team’s 1-0 win over Madagascar in an international friendly match on Friday night in France.
A Victor Wanyama second half goal from the spot is all the Stars needed to get a crucial pre-Afcon win as the preparation for the biannual tournament hots up.
The Stars did not particularly play well as Madagascar dictated most of the proceedings in the game and even missed a first half penalty, Migne is however happy with the win.
“It will be good if we build from the victory as that will help us boost our confidence,” Migne said after the game before adding.
“It is always fantastic to win in football and the fact that we did not concede shows that we are strong defensively.”
The Frenchman was also full of praise for debutant John Avire, the Sofapaka striker was a surprise inclusion in the preliminary squad.
He was named in the starting XI on Friday and the tactician was impressed by his performance.
“In the training session, he showed me that he deserves to have a starting role in the team and I am happy with how he played today. He has shown the quality and maybe he has a future with Harambee Stars.”
Migne has been labeled a defensive coach based on how the Stars approach games under him and once again the former Congo coach reiterated on the importance of being tight at the back.
“We must make sure that our defensive line is doing the job and then attack as a team and it really worked well again today.”
“We still have another friendly to play and then afterwards I will have picked my final squad for the tournament,” he added.
Migne will have a chance to gauge his side further when Stars plays DR Congo in another build up match on 15th June in Madrid, Spain.
Kenya has been pooled in group C alongside Tanzania, Senegal and Algeria, they start their campaign on June 23rd against the side from the Maghreb.
