Morocco and Hervé Renard managed another victory over his former employers Ivory Coast to go top of Group D with six points at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations.
Youssef En-Nesyri’s single goal of the game earned Renard’s charges a slim 1-0 win over Côte d’Ivoire at the Al Salam stadium in Egypt on Friday.
The result meant that the Atlas Lions are through to the knockout stages of the competition joining Egypt, Nigeria and Algeria.
Renard left Ivory Coast in 2016 to join Morocco as their head coach and against the Elephants, the Atlas Lions have enjoyed a good run under the Frenchman, winning three in three.
Prior to Friday’s win, Renard had won on two previous occasions against the side he guided to African glory in 2015 hence rewriting a new script against them.
At the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations held in Gabon, Morocco and Ivory Coast were drawn in the same group, Morocco won 1-0 hence deeming Ivory Coast’s chances of defending their crown.
During the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Renard revisited the Ivorian capital Abidjan and ensured Morocco won the game 2-0.
