Tunisia last played the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2004, then they hosted the tournament and went ahead and won it, Senegal’s only appearance in the final was in 2002 in Mali.
At the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nation in Egypt, the Lions of Teranga triumphed over Tunisia 1-0 through an own goal by Dylan Bronn at the June 30th Stadium to make the final after 17 years.
That was after a series of missed opportunities from both sides including two penalties in normal time with the first falling to Tunisia in the 73rd minute.

Ten minutes to full time, Ismail Sarr won a penalty for Senegal, it wasn’t Sadio Mane who took the responsibility but Henri Sarrs his kick was also saved by Mouez Hassen.
The two sides weren’t separated at full time, extra time was needed for that and that’s when Senegal nicked it.
In the 100th minute, pressure mounted on Tunisia and Dylan Bronn put the ball in his own net, that goal set Senegal through to the finals for the first.
There was a scare for Senegal after a penalty appeal when it looked like Idrissa Gueye handled the ball in the area, Video Assistant Referee ruled otherwise.
The last time Senegal played the final in Bamako, they lost 3-2 to Cameroon in the final after a goalless draw, then current coach of Senegal Aliou Cisse was the captain of the side.
