Senegal came to Egypt to the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations with the tag of the best team on the African continent and automatically made them favourites to win the championship.
Senegal’s head coach Aliou Cisse has time and again downplayed the favourites tag placed on his team insisting there are no weak teams at the Africa Cup of Nations anymore.
“Africa doesn’t have any small teams at the tournament, everyone is becoming organized and you have to prepare for every opponent careful,” Cisse said after the game.
“We are preparing for match after match, so we can’t make Senegal a favourite, we need to concentrate because this tournament is very difficult.”
“Today we played against a very strong team and organized defensively, we were lucky that we got the lead early and kept it, but we were made to work very hard for this victory,” he added.
Senegal defeated Uganda 1-0 courtesy of the Sadio Mane’s goal, the Liverpool FC man in England had a chance to make it 2-0 from 12 yards but his effort was saved by Denis Onyango.
They are through to the quarter finals where they will face Benin who defeated Morocco 4-1 on penalties after a one-all draw in normal time.
