Uganda against Senegal is the only confirmed fixture of the Round of 16 at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations slated for Friday, July 5th at Cairo International Stadium.
Senegal defeated Kenya 3-0 to seal second place of Group C that was topped by Algeria on nine points after their 3-0 win over Tanzania.
“We are ready to face anyone,” Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango had told www.football-256.com on Sunday after their 2-0 defeat to Egypt.
“We are here to compete and prove a point that we have what it takes to be one of the best in Africa and to achieve that we must face the best,” he added.
Despite missing a first-half penalty, Sadio Mane scored twice in the 71st and 78 minutes of the game, Ismaïla Sarr had given Senegal a 61st-minute lead.
Uganda finished second in group A after collecting four points, from two games following their 2-0 win over DR Congo and the one all draw with Zimbabwe.
It’s the first time Uganda will be playing at this stage of the competition since 1978 when they went all the way to the final losing 2-0 to eventual winners Ghana.
Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre has tinkered with his central defence partnership since the hamstring injury suffered by Murushid Juuko, the Frenchman will hope to have the former back and fit for the tie.
In Juuko’s absence, Ronald Mukiibi played alongside Hassan Wasswa in the game against Zimbabwe while Timothy Awany came in for Mukiibi against Egypt.
