Ahead of their Group C tie against Guinea in the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Alexandria, the Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa failed to show up for the pre-match press conference with manager Gernot Rohr over unpaid allowances.
According to www.busybuddiesng.com, Rohr showed up alone for the press conference without Musa and that’s when he revealed that the players were locked in a meeting with officials from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) over non-payment of allowances.
It’s not news that Nigeria find themselves in a situation like this but it’s reported that the incidence is caused by Nigeria’s former sports Minister Solomon Dalung.
Dalung failed to include their budgets for national team assignments in the 2019 budget before the expiration of his tenure in May.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria also refused to leave France after their exit in the FIFA Women World Cup after the NFF didn’t clear their allowances in time.
It was the same story with the Flying Eagles when they staged a sit-down protest after they were knocked out of the U20 World Cup in Poland over their unpaid bonuses and allowances.
Nigeria’s campaign started on a good note they defeated Burundi 1-0 courtesy of striker Odion Ighalo in the 77th minute on their return after missing the last editions.
