AFCON 2019: The 23 Cranes confirmed

Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has named the 23 man squad that will represent the Pearl of Africa at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Led by skipper Denis Onyango, Jamal Salim and Robert Odongkara will be going to their second straight AFCON finals.

Nine defenders in Nico Wakiro Wadada, Ronald Ddungu Mukiibi, Murushid Jjuuko, Bevis Mugabi and Isaac Muleme join the fray.

The others are Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, Joseph Ochaya, Timothy Denis Awanyi and Godfrey Walusimbi.

The team will have seven midfielders in Allan Kateregga, Mike Azira, William Kizito Luwagga, Khalid Aucho, Faruku Miya, Abdul Lumala and Taddeo Lwanga.

Four strikers will be vying for that starting role led by Patrick Kaddu, Derrick Nsibambi, Allan Kyambadde and Emmanuel Arnold Okwi.

Four players have been dropped from the provisional squad, these are; Sadam Ibrahim Juma, Alexis Bakka, Charles Lukwago and Kirizestom Ntambi.

The four join Vipers’ midfielder Moses Waiswa who sustained a knee injury and automatically got eliminated from the squad.

Uganda Cranes was placed in group A with DR Congo, Zimbabwe, and hosts Egypt, they play their opening game against DR Congo on June 22nd.
