AFCON 2019: Uganda Cranes finally train

By Clive Kyazze

After a lot of back forth between the Cranes players, FUFA and government officials, the players eventually held a training session on Wednesday night at the Arab Constructors ground.

It was Cranes first training session since their 2-0 defeat to Egypt on Sunday as they prepare for the Round of 16 against Senegal on July 5th at Cairo International Stadium.

All players apart from Hassan Wasswa who had a tooth extraction trained under the watchful eye of coach Sébastien Desabre.

Cranes were striking over FUFA’s failure to clear their bonuses as per the players’ code of conduct, the Wednesday training session was also delayed by over two hours because the players hadn’t gotten FUFA’s commitment to sort the issue.

On Tuesday, FUFA released a statement confirming the clearing of the players’ allowances of different dates.

It’s the first time Uganda is playing in the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations since 1978, a target that was set for the French tactician.

The players who turned up for training: Denis Onyango, Salim Omar Magoola, Robert Odongkara, Godfrey Walusimbi, Emmanuel Arnold Okwi, Isaac Muleme, Mike Azira, Abdu Lumala, Tadeo Lwanga, Patrick Henry Kaddu, Timothy Denis Awany, Derrick Paul Nsibambi, Nico Wakiro Wadada, Allan Kyambadde, Joseph Benson Ochaya, William Luwagga Kizito, Allan Kateregga, , Bevis Mugabi, Murushid Juuko, Ronald Mukiibi, Khalid Aucho
