Defending champions Algeria are no longer in Cameroon at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The two-time winners of the AFCON failed to go past the group stages, finishing bottom of Group E with only a single point.
Having triumphed in the previous edition held in Egypt when they edged Senegal 1-0 in the 2019 final, the Desert Foxes were without a doubt tipped amongst the favourites for the 33rd edition.
They also came to this tournament on the back of a 34-game unbeaten run and aimed at retaining their crown.
That said, we rewind to 1990 when they won their first AFCON title and truth be told, winning a trophy is more or less a curse to them, going into the next tournament.
Algeria hosted and won the 17th edition. They edged Nigeria in the final in their land, but misery would hit them in the 18th edition.
In the tournament held in Ivory Coast in 1992, the North Africans once again didn’t go past the group stages.
They again finished rock bottom of Group C on a single point, just like they did in 2021 in Group E.
