The climax of Group B in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, witnessed Senegal and Guinea march on to the Round of 16 although the latter lost 2-1 to the already eliminated Zimbabwe at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Tuesday.
Knowledge Musona and Kudakwashe Mahachi scored for Zimbabwe in the 25th and 43rd minute respectively as they picked up their first win at the tournament, bowing out in pride.
Liverpool star Naby Keita netted Guinea’s consolation goal in the 49th minute but the loss didn’t stand in their way as they finished runners up, beating Malawi on head to head stat given that they both managed four points.
In the other Group B game played at Kouekong Stadium, Senegal and Malawi drew goalless for the former to progress as group leaders on five points.
A point was huge for Malawi boosting their chances of going through to the knockout stage for the first in their history should they be among the best four third placed teams.
In the Round of 16, Senegal will meet any of the third placed teams in Group A, C and D and it will be played at Kouekong Stadium on Tuesday, January 25.
Whereas Guinea will be watching on to see who finished second as well in Group F for a knockout tie on Monday, January 24 at Kouekong Stadium.
