Following their 2-0 win over debutants Comoros at Stade Amadou Ahidjo on Friday, Morocco are through to the round of 16 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Atlas Lions who were winning their second game in Group C, join hosts Cameroon who booked their slot in the knockout stage on Thursday following their 4-1 win over Ethiopia in Group A.
Sellim Amallah and substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal netted for the North Africans in the 16th and 89th minute.
It should have ended 3-0 but Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri who also came off the bench missed a penalty in the 83rd minute.
The 1976 champions have now accumulated six points and are top of Group C after two games.
They will be looking forward to finishing at the summit with maximum points when they take on Gabon in their final group game on Tuesday, January 18.
On the other hand, Comoros could be headed back home given that they are at the base with no point and will face Ghana the same day.
