Uganda U17 national football side will be out for maximum points when they faceoff with hosts Tanzania at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Wednesday in the ongoing Total 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tanzania just like Uganda are both searching for their first win of the competition having lost to Nigeria (5-4) and Angola (1-0) respectively.
“Our strategy is to attack them,” Uganda Cubs head coach Samuel ‘Paa’ Fabin Kwesi said in the post-match press conference on Tuesday, he added.
“This is the game where Tanzania and Uganda need a win, the loser will be completely out of the equation, therefore both teams are going to treat the game seriously but Uganda will move out with maximum points.”
“Both teams played in the same qualification group, it’s a derby because they share boarders, therefore we think that we have to put in a lot of energy to come out as winners,” he added.
However, much Tanzania is at home, Kwesi is confident that this will not stop his side from collecting maximum points from the hosts.
“Tanzania have the 12th player, the supporters because they are at home, but that doesn’t matter a lot on the pitch. They are on pressure because they lost the first game, we therefore have a psychological advantage over them,” Kwese noted
Cubs captain Garvin Kizito Mugweri doesn’t differ match from his coach, the Vipers’ Junior League player is putting the loss against Angola behind him and focusing on the Tanzanian game.
“We lost our first game but it doesn’t mean that we are out of the tournament, we have a chance in our second game, we are coming for maximum points against Tanzania,” Kizito said.
The best two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals and the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Brazil later this year.
