Uganda’s U17 national team, Uganda Cubs have been pitted in Group B of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in the CECAFA zone.
The Hamza Lutalo’s coached side will share the same group with neighbours Rwanda alongside Burundi, Sudan, and Djibouti.
In Group A, hosts Ethiopia were drawn with Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan, and Tanzania.
The 10-team tournament will commence on September 30th, 2022 to October 15th, 2022 in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
The best two performing teams at the competition will represent the CECAFA region at the 2023 AFCON in Algeria.
CECAFA’s representatives will have a chance to play at the 2023 World Cup should they finish in the semifinals of AFCON.
Uganda has not played at the World Cup before but they have played at the AFCON but did not go beyond the group stages at their maiden tournament held in Tanzania in 2019.
They qualified for their second AFCON in 2021 but it was not held in Morocco due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Cubs have already embarked on preparations at FUFA Technical Center and Lutalo together with his assistant Brian Ssenyondo will name the final squad from the available 35 players at their disposal.
