KCCA FC defender Musa Ramathan has vowed to give his all for the Uganda Hippos to achieve success at the forthcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations slated for February 14 to March 4, 2021, in Mauritania.
The Uganda Hippos are currently going through immense training at the MTN Omondi Stadium and according to Ramathan, his only prayer is to lead the team to victory.
“The coaches are doing whatever it takes to keep us in good shape for the final tournament in Mauritania,” Ramathan said after Tuesday’s training.
“As a player, am praying, working hard and am very ready to help the team come back victorious,” he added.
Uganda qualified for their maiden AFCON U20 finals after winning the CECAFA region qualifiers (CECAFA U20 Championship) held in Tanzania in November 2020.
The Hippos breezed past Tanzania in the tournament final to win 4-1 in Arusha.
Uganda was drawn in Group A alongside hosts Mauritania, Cameroon and Mozambique in the tournament draw held in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Monday afternoon.
Uganda will kick-start their campaign against Mozambique when the tournament gets underway in February in the coastal city of Nouakchott off the Western coast of Africa.
Up to 35 players were summoned to kickstart preparations for the tournament, but the team was cut short with seven players including UK based Samuel Moses Kitaka among those who were dropped.
Others are; Opio Odong, Emmanuel Mukasa, Umar Lutalo, Okur Swamadu, Obi Obedi and Ronald Kiberu.
Meanwhile, Vipers SC duo Abdu Aziz Kayondo and Bobosi Byaruhanga who are currently with the Uganda Cranes at the CHAN tournament in Cameroon, are expected to join the team after the tournament.
