Uganda Hippos will not take their opponents, Mozambique lightly as they start the 2020 African Nations Cup to be held in Mauritania says head coach Morley Byekwaso.

The Hippos will participate in their maiden U20 AFCON tournament that starts on February 14, 2021. The U20 sealed qualification after finishing as champions of the CECAFA Zonal qualifiers.

“We will not take Mozambique lightly because they are champions of the South Zone.“ Byekwaso noted in the pre-match press conference on Sunday.

“Football has changed a lot all over the world and this implies you can no longer judge your opponent according to the past because many sides have evolved and gotten better from what we used to know” he added

“Tactically and talented wise these teams are equipped off well. Every team or country in the world can now play football. Even the talent molded from these countries is better.”

According to the KCCA assistant coach, The boys will perform well because they have surely prepared and are ready to take on the challenge and represent the Pearl of Africa diligently.

The Hippos come with confidence in this tournament after emerging victors in the CECAFA Zonal champions having staged a well-deserved show in the youthful tournament.

The Hippos earlier held a 10-day training camp in Dar es Salaam and played two practice matches against Tanzania U20 where they lost one and won the other.

Uganda is pitted in Group A with hosts Mauritania, Cameroon, and Mozambique. However, they will have their first game in the tournament against Mozambique on February 15, 2021, at 16:00 hours.

This will be the third time they are meeting since the doubleheader they had in 2012. Uganda were held to a one-all stalemate in the first leg by the hosts Mozambique but the Hippos won the second leg by a margin of four.
