Uganda Cranes skipper Emmanuel Okwi has resounded the team’s willingness to fight for a positive result against continental powerhouse, Algeria in the opening match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Kiyovu FC forward rumbled, expressing optimism that they will do whatever it takes to get something out of the Saturday game at the Stade du 5 Juillet.

“It will not be an easy game against such a great side in Algeria but we are also ready to fight and defend our flag,” Okwi said on Friday.

“We are going to fight for a positive result, pick something from the game and defend our country’s pride,” he added.

The captain of the Cranes’ troops further added the importance of staying together as a whole if they are to leave Algeria with smiling faces.

“If we are to accomplish this (positive result), we have to stay together as a team, support each other, from the coach, the entire technical team, and the players.”

After the game in the Northern part of Africa, Uganda will turn guns to Niger on home turf, at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on June 8.

In the other Group F game, Niger will host Tanzania at the Stade de I’amitie on Saturday.
