Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho is inspired by adorable and passionate Tanzanian fans, especially those that support rival sides Young Africans SC and Simba SC.
Even though Aucho plays in games like the Kariakoo Derby between Yanga and Simba that hold an electric atmosphere, back in his native Uganda, it is a rare sight.
“The challenge in Uganda is that people are not as expressive as people are in Tanzania or anywhere else,” the Yanga midfielder told Football256.
“People in Uganda will like you but fail to show it to you but here Tanzanians will want so much you and you will know how much they love you.”
“In Tanzania, the young ones and the elders always express themselves to us wherever we go and that has significantly increased their passion for the game of football and their teams in particular.”
“In Uganda, the few that come around are only focused on positive results and if results are negative they are very bitter and some do not return.”
“But here, if you do not win it is normal for the fans to feel angry just like any other human being but later they get over it and continue supporting their teams,” he stated.
During the 80s and 90s Ugandan football fans used to have their teams at heart especially SC Villa, KCCA FC, and Express FC but that has faded recently.
However, the game between KCCA FC and Vipers SC continues to attract thousands, a week ago, the former edged the latter 1-0 at Lugogo. Hopefully, Ugandan football enthusiasts continue with such spirit.
