The State minister for sports in Uganda Charles Bakkabulindi has acknowledged the leading online sports betting company in the country in Betway for their tireless efforts towards the development of sports.
Bakkabulindi was officially opening Betway’s second edition of the annual Thought Leadership Seminar held at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday June 18th.
“I can clearly see that the purpose of this training is empowering sports administrators and also encouraging inclusive participation of all the stakeholders,” Bakkabulindi said before adding.
“Which is so crucial because it is a sign that we are now moving forward, it’s important that I have participated in this workshop for the first time.”
“The negative perception towards betting should change because it’s different from what I am seeing in the workshop,” the minister noted.

Bakkabulindi also recognized the direction taken by sports in the country, he appreciated the workshop for bringing different stakeholders in sports together which he believes is good as far as sports development is concerned,.
“In the past, sports was for entertainment but currently it is no longer for entertainment as per say, it’s a tool of unity and for economic, social and physical development.”
“The trend has now changed, society is dynamic and the reasoning we used to have about sports has now changed, we are now working for the development of sports,” he noted.
The workshop will end on Wednesday June 19th under the theme ‘Sports inspirational learning and experience sharing’, with an intention of benefiting sports stakeholders in the industry with development of sports in Uganda at the top of the agenda.
Different sports stakeholders from basketball, football, rugby, tennis, futsal, handball, boxing, pool table, media, regulators, government institutions, marketing firms, among others were brought together by the workshop and shared different experiences.
