In one of the biggest Scottish Women Football signings ever, Glasgow City FC has announced the signing of Banyana Banyana captain Janine Van Wyk, making her the club’s third summer signing.
With a mountain of experience, she joins coach Scott Booth’s squad as a senior.
Van Wyk was captain as South Africa qualified for her first-ever World Cup appearance in 2019, and is the country’s most capped player for both men and women national teams.
She has featured for a number of clubs like the Super Falcons, Houston Dash in the United States and lately her own team JVW FC in South Africa.
She joins fellow countrywomen that ply their trade from the diaspora including Linda Mothelo who features for Swedish side Djurgardens FC.
The others are Thembi Kgatlana who plays for Benfica Feminine, Refiloe Jane who features for Italian side Ac Milan among others.
Her experience will be key when her team tussles out with Wolfsburg in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women Champions League later on this month.
