The number of Ugandan players involved in the 2018/2019 Total CAF Inter-club (CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup) competitions keeps growing by the day.
On every match day at least five different Ugandan players across the continent make the match day squads of their respective clubs, and not far away from Kampala, Shafick Batambuze was carrying Uganda’s flag high in Nairobi Kenya.
The left wing back was named in the starting line up as his Kenyan side Gor Mahia beat Egyptian giants Zamalek 4-2 at the Moi Sports Complex Kasarani as the side recorded their first win of the Total 2018/2019 CAF Confederations Cup campaign.
Batambuze will be back in action on Wednesday February 13th 2019, as his side visits Atlético Petróleos de Luanda in Luanda, Angola at Estádio 11 de Novembro in the tournament’s match day two fixtures.
Rwandan forward Jaques Tuyisenge notched a brace along with two assists while Nicholas Kipkirui and Kenyan poster boy Dennis Oliech scored the other goals. Gor Mahia now top group D on 3 points after match day one.
In Sudan, Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Jamal Salim recorded a clean sheet as his side Al Hilal Omurdaman edged Ghana’s Asante Kotoko 1-0 in Sudan for their first win in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Al Hilal Omurdaman now occupy second spot with Zesco United topping group C after they beat fellow Zambian side Nkana 2-0 in Ndola.
Meanwhile, Salim Jamal’s Al Hilal Omurdaman will play again in the competition Wednesday against Nkana Red Devils in Kitwe, Zambia at Nkana Stadium, the latter lost 2-0 in their opening fixture against Zesco United.
